Who would have thunk It

I came, I saw and I lazed around.

Wet dreams for a truly developed blissful India

Disclaimer: I just realised that i have inadventantly 'internalized' either a blog post or comment that used the 'don't feed the people who just ate' metaphor. Since I didnt receive a 500k check (yet) for this post, i do intend to let that metaphor live on in my blog. And no, i am not planning any rewrites either!

I saw this post on Sagaro's blog. I wanted to leave a comment but found myself typing furiously sentence after sentence. Since I realised I feel rather strongly about this and have quite a few things to say, I decided to write this in its own blog post.

Sagaro/gapp

You mentioned something about the constitution giving 22.5% to SC/ST and any lay abiding Indian citizen should accept that. You do know that Dr. Ambedkar, who was primarily responsible for such a quota system, didn't intend it to be a permanent system? He wanted the system to fade out and be completely gone. Whatever happened to that? The logic is simple – given the 'downtrodden' people X years to catch up. At the end of that period the play field should be levelled. And if there are still some who are, from that point onwards, unable to compete – well they are just stupid or incompetent. And there will always be incompetents in a population – are we to forever let them play catch up?? And why are the children of a person who already utilized the quota system to get a seat or job still allowed to use the quota ? Didnt they already get a chance to catch up? And if they have caught up and are in a financially good position, why are they taking up the seats that could go to another deserving SC/ST/BC/OBC candidate, let alone a deserving FC?

You say 50+ years wasnt enough? You say in the first 50+ years the plan wasn't implemented properly and there was still too much oppresion? Well i am sure we acn all agree that the FC are no longer the dominant force in politics or pretty much any other field. The Brahmins arent the veto force any more. Agreed? Let us start with today being Day Zero. Come up with an estimate – say 50 more years ( or heck even 100 more). Formulate some 'X' based quota system. Make sure those who have eaten arent the only ones eligible for more food over and over again.

At the end of the period determined, abolish the quota system and let merit be the only criteria. Throw in some need based assistance (more on how below). AFTER someone gets a seat based on merit, give them need based scholarship to pay for the seat. This would start with grade school and go all the way upto graduate study. Think the SC/ST/BC/OBC community would accept this? Or for that matter the vote bank pandering politicians who use this as a spring board to election victories at the expense of the only true suffering minority in India – the so called Forward Castes? ( yeah ok, some frustration here. Sue me for being pissed that i get a 90th percentile and find morons with 65th percentile getting admission before me. And the aforementioned morons invariably being far richer than my family )

How to have a feasible ( and as cheat proof as possible) Need based quota system:
( Or, wet dreams for a truly developed and blissful India )

Step 1) Make Income tax system better. Make it so that every body making any income, be it in bank jobs or by hauling garbage and rotting slush from farmlands files taxes. The american tax system can be used as a template – take the good, and learn from the mistakes. We are already rather developed in terms of the IT infrastructure this might need.

Step 2) Use Tax ID ( from the properly implemented system in step 1 ) to figure out NEED.

Step 3) Subsidize schooling upto 5th standard for all – across the board. Keep the politicians who would be obviously licking their lips at the sight of all the money away by meticulous accouting. (Well this IS my wet dream, remember?)

Step 4) Starting with middle school, since the kids already have had equal opportunity to get to this point, let merit be the sole criteria for getting admission.

Step 5) Once someone gains admission, use the NEED system to figure out if they can be approved for a scholarship.

Step 6) Step back and bask in the glory that is Mother India – opportunities for the smart, gutter cleaning jobs for the truly stupid and/or lazy bums.

step 7) Wake up and cry ?? 😦 ( I have been unable to avoid getting to this point so far, but one can only hope …)

  1. “At the end of that period the play field should be levelled. And if there are still some who are, from that point onwards, unable to compete – well they are just stupid or incompetent. And there will always be incompetents in a population – are we to forever let them play catch up??”

Its not some, its the major population of the country. 80 percent are still downtrodden, have not yet caught up. And you might know that you dont decide their future. If they are dumb and couldnt catch up, its the nations responsibility to help them out. The govt isnt working for the FC and are not doing a favor to the OBC guys by offering a reservation system. Machan, the govt works for the country’s development. If the country is filled with gits and maggots then the govt will have to play along with them and not with the select few who are better off.

100 percent of US population are into banking, companies and development sector, whereas in India 80 poercent are peasents/farmers and traders. There is no fool proof method in which you can prove how much a farmer makes a year. I can show you millions who qualify for “no income”.

So you will create tax ids for a worker who puts the bricks in your home and builds it and gets 15 rupees a day huh? Do it lemme see how you will track a seetharam or a muniyandi get 20 rupees for cleaning your gutter.

Need based quata system, tax id, better schools etc. have been already indicated at my blog (Infranet technology)
And most of your points are tautologies which I wont bother nullifying.

And dont come up with bull shit arguements like: all the SC/St are dumb gits, all of them who get in quota system are rich… the rich OBC guys are marginal. You are prejudiced against them and thats why you are bugged with them. In which case I cant help you a bit. Even I feel bad when I cant get into some premier institute cauze I got 90 percentile and am an Fc, but then I can afford to do other stuff without the addmission at primier institue, but OBC guys need it more than me. And for your record, in 1993 a SC/St guy at IIT got the best outgoing award and the gold medal as he topped his batch at IIT. Go check IITM.ac.in. Ok so never give bull shit that they are incapable people.

And you can put up with dumb NRI and Management students and not Dumb SC/St guys huh… proves how you loath them…sad maan!

  2. @gapp

While i agree that it is the govt's purpose to help all citizens, even the dumb/lazy ones, I dont subscribe to the socialist ideas you are suggesting. Help them all you want, but NOT at the cost of the deserving and the hard working.

Regd all of the US working white collar jobs – who do you think grows all of the corn/wheat/agri products the US produces – the tooth fairy?

I would like to state at this point that i dont hate just the dumb SC/STs. I hate all dumb undeserving people who climb over a deserving candidate just because of the quota. I dont care if you chant the Vedas or vadivel ( a tamil movie 'comedian'). If you are not smart enough to get a seat given equal opportunity, you should not get a seat at the cost of a deserving candidate. And you will get ( or already have got) your equal opportunity due to the existing quotas. I am not comparing some poor gutter cleaner's son in a remote village with a rich city guy. I am talking about the guys in the same school who get into a better college ( or for lower fees) than a deserving meritorious candidate.

I am sure there are many SC/STs who are smarter than me or the average FC. More power and opportunities to them. Let them use the quote to level the field, get the jobs they deserve, and then make way for the others. Volunteer out of the quota system once you have used it!

And you can put up with dumb NRI and Management students and not Dumb SC/St guys huh… proves how you loath them…sad maan!

Do you see the difference between a private entity ( the college and its Mgmt ) decide to have quotas for whatever reason and the Government of India stipulating quotas?? A government legislating an ill-implemented system like the quota system is way more devastating to democracy and meritocracy than a private institution trying to do that. There are anti discriminatory laws in place ( and govts do force the institutions to open seats to the public ). I do agree that letting in 'dumb NRI and Management quota students' in is equally despicable, but it is not the Damn Government shoving it down my throat. I can appeal to the government if anybody else causes me injustice – who do i appeal to if the government is the proponent of said injustice ?

And do note that the post is titled 'wet dreams'. And put aside your GRE Barrons guide you are holding ( like all SVCE students 😀 ) for a moment, and crack open a cool bottle of 'commen sense' with a tasty side of 'sense of humor'.

  3. @Dangit:
The people who clean toilets, build homes etc. in the US are indians. Period.

Machan who cares about smartness. I dont care a shit about merit. Who cares about merit 1) you aka students 2) companies who recruit

the country cares about over all development, it doesnt want 15 percent of its population going up and up and the rest stay behind.

I bet you have played age of empires/civilization or some game in that genre. When you have built a fort, you go developing the undeveloped area, you dont bother about the place which is already fortified do you (You dont keep fortifying the area which is secure, you dont waste money there)… its similar to that… The govt. know the FC can sustain themselves even if they dont get a seat in IIM.

And for the hundredth time, people who get equal oportunity and are rich but scored less and took over your seat, are marginal. Only a few OBC are rich, not all. Of 85 million people, only some 2 percent are rich… so stop the tautology. It makes no sense. Just because a small marginal number of undeserving people get in along with majo deserving people, you cant scrap the whole system. Its like saying demolish the whole building cauze there are termites in one room.

For your info the govt. also decides the management and nri quota. a college cant have more than 50 percent management quota if it has to be under Anna Univ. In which case, why didnt you get angry then. If you hated people who got in undeservingly, then how come you were quite all this while… how come you dont have grudge agains the Management students. I bet you were a management student. Which is even worse, cauze then you don’t qualify to talk about “undeserving people eating into your seat”. cauze you are one urself.

BTW what do you plan to appeal for? temme. How many rich Sc/St have taken your place. I can show you so many who were poor and got in becas of this scheme, and are better off now. And I can name a few: Tanmoy for instance, who got into IIT but didnt opt for reservation even though he is SC. He got thro general category. Dont come up with chumma arguements.

Well if you had actually gone thro my about page, you would have realised, I am gonna become a farmer – organic farm. And not do MS or PHd. So chuck the Barron wordlist bit.
